The women work in partnership with other members representing education, business, public policy, philanthropic and community and faith-based organizations. Its mission is to empower and educate the African American community about responsible choices to reduce reproductive, sexual health and women's health disparities. Some of the organization’s past accomplishments include being named a 2003 Health Care Heroes Award finalist by the Phoenix Business Journal; receiving the 2005 Education CHOICE Award from Planned Parenthood; and being sponsor of numerous Valley workshops that bring awareness to and educate people on sexual-health related issues. In 2007, as an official 501(c)(3) organization, Sistas of AZ plans to continue to raise awareness about Domestic Violence with its Unite 4 Life initiative. On Feb. 7, Sistas of AZ will co-host “Resound the Alarm” - an African American Sexual Health Initiative in recognition of National Black AIDS Awareness Day. It will collaborate with Planned Parenthood and Estrella Mountain Community College’s Black Student Union. A new focus this year also will be to raise awareness and educate Arizona residents about breast cancer.
